Chap. 1

Beast Boy eyes darted from side to side as he put all his thoughts and discipline into completing his mission.  He could see them coming in from all sides, attacking with everything they had.  Undaunted, he moved all around, dodging their blows while coming ever closer to his objective.  Finally, he came to the steps, the steps that led to the item he needed to end his mission.

“Come on, just a little further…” Beast Boy muttered, as he bit his tongue and began to move up the steps, even as the attackers came down on him.  They fired left and right but still he dodged, leaping about with all the simian grace he possessed, until finally, he came to the top of the stairs.  And there, at the top, he saw the successful completion of his mission just within his grasp.

“Almost there.” He said, as he leapt towards it, his fingers within inches of grabbing it.  It would only take seconds to finally have it.  But that wasn’t enough to stop the lone attacker that fired, wasn’t enough to stop Beast Boy from being hit, or the last thing he saw before the blackness…

GAME OVER


“NOOOOOOOOOO!!!  NOT AGAIN!!” Beast Boy almost sobbed as Robot Monkey Force once again ended with him dying at the very last level.  It had been the same for the last three days, despite Cyborg, Robin, and even Starfire winning the game before him.

“Aw man, at this rate, Raven’s gonna win this thing before me.  And she doesn’t even play video games.” Beast Boy moaned, as he reached over to start the game for the umpteenth time.  But before he could, a voice came on through his intercom.

“Robin to Beast Boy.  Are you coming down or what?”

“Huh?  Sorry Rob, I’ve got some uh, important Titans related stuff to do.  Bad guys, ya know.”

“I know.  That’s why I want you to get down here.  So you can get started on it.”

“What?”

“Beast Boy, it’s Friday.  You know what was supposed to happen on Friday, right?”

“Um, Movie night?”

“No.”

“Pizza night?”

“No.”

“Uh… ooh, buy Beast Boy a moped…”

“Just get down to the hanger bay!”

“Why would… Oh right.” Beast Boy said sheepishly, as he changed into a dragonfly and began to zoom off towards the bay.

“Man, I can’t believe he forgot about this.” Cyborg said, as Robin shut down the intercom.

“You do remember he destroyed the remote because he forgot to change the batteries?” Raven asked.

“So?”

“Because he forgot it needed batteries?”

“….OK, good point.”

“Wait, I believe he has arrived.” Starfire said, as she pointed to the green dragonfly that zoomed into the room, only to change back into Beast Boy.

“Sorry Robin, Robot Monkey Force and all…”

“Never mind Beast Boy.” The boy wonder said, as he moved over to the T-Ship.  Turning to face Beast Boy, he said, “Just remember to pay more attention while Cyborg and I are in Gotham.”

“Yeah.  Why are you going again?” Beast Boy asked.  “I forget.  Was it Dr. Light?  Or Slade?  Wait, was it that Mad Mod was back?”

Robin gritted his teeth and replied, “No.  We’re going there to help Batman bust up a crime ring he thinks that Slade is involved in.”

“Right, right.” BB said.

Robin sighed, as Raven asked, “Are you sure you want to leave him in charge?”

“No.” Robin said.  “But you didn’t want the job, and Starfire… well…”

“Oh Robin, I shall weep harder then the falls of Rynak 7 for your leaving.” The golden skinned alien cried, as she hugged Robin (with some audible snaps).  

“Star…fire…I… won’t… be… long…” Robin gasped, as he felt something burst in his chest.  

“Oh, but are you sure this man who loves bats cannot deal with Slade?”

“Probably can Star.  But Robin wants to…do it..himself.” Cyborg said, as he reached between them and with great effort, pulled the two apart.

“Besides, you won’t be alone.  Bumblebee and Jinx are staying to help out.  And we shouldn’t be more then a week or two.” Cyborg said, as he quickly felt Robin’s chest for any collapsed ribs.

“Sniff… very well….you will call me?” Starfire whimpered

“Y-Yes Star…every day..” Robin said, as he slowly walked into the T-Ship.

“Don’t worry Robin.  I’ll keep everything ship-shape.” Beast Boy said, puffing his chest as he saluted.

“Just please, don’t blow anything up this time.” Robin said as he sat in the cockpit.

“And don’t be messing with my computer!  I don’t wanna get home and get another virus!” Cyborg said.

“C’mon dude, that was one time!”

“And it made me eat a mailbox!”

“Guys.” Robin said.  “Just try to keep the city safe ok?”

“Yes sir!” Beast Boy said.

“It’ll be fine.” Raven said, motioning to Beast Boy.

“Hurry back my friends!” Starfire said, as she flew up to Robin and kissed him goodbye.  Robin, blushing fiercely, nodded back and then closed the ship.  The other three Titans watched as the T-Ship’s engines ignited and lifted, speeding their friends to Gotham.  As Titans Tower faded in the distance, Robin looked back and just prayed that Beast Boy’s leadership would at least leave the Tower standing.

In hindsight, Robin would realize he should've prayed for a lot more.
